    Acqua di Lampone

    The Mosby Acqua di lampone is a distillation of premium raspberries from a berry patch up the Columbia Gorge about 30 miles east of Portland, Oregon. “The raspberries are mechanically picked which results in perfect fruit,” said Mosby. “The berries are perfectly uniform in color and ripeness. Smuckers Jams gets their raspberries from the same farm.” After harvesting, Mosby begins fermentation immediately and continues for approximately ten days before moving it to the still for distillation. The eau de vie is then brought to proof with filtered rainwater.

    The Mosby Distillato di Prugne Selvaggie is a distillation of Native Pacific Plums. Remembering when he was a boy growing up in Oregon, Bill Mosby recalls, “We’d go into the highland and gather these wild plums that grew in the mountainous areas of northern California and southern Oregon.”

    In a Los Angeles Times column, wine writer Dan Berger exclaimed, “One of the most amazing products I’ve tasted is from Mosby Winery in Buellton. [His] Distillato di Prugne Selvaggie (a distillation of wild plums) is one of the finest, most aromatic liquids I have ever smelled or tasted.”

In France, this crystal-clear, high-proof beverage was known as Marc. In Italy it was called Grappa. The 80-proof Mosby Grappa di Traminer was made with pomace from estate-grown Traminer. It is an excellent conclusion to a meal—especially Italian cuisine—and should be enjoyed in the same way you would enjoy a snifter of cognac or a fine single-malt Scotch whisky.
